Who Are We? Our Mission - "Loving Not Judging"
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church began as a Sunday school in 1914 in a room over Long’s Store at the corner of Central and Pecan Avenues. This was a mission begun by St. Mark's Lutheran Church after they identified the need for a Lutheran church in the eastern part of the city. The congregation was organized in 1916 and the first church building, on the corner of Central and Thomas Avenues, was built in 1917. The congregation voted to relocate in 1946 and on Easter Sunday in 1951 the first service was held in the building we currently occupy. In 1968 an educational wing was added to the facility. In 1979 we celebrated the burning of the mortgage for the new building. Some past highlights of our ministry have included: sponsoring two Polish refugee families, Super Saturdays and summer day camp for children, and the annual Advent/Christmas performance. We are a Reconciling in Christ Congregation. Recognizing Lutheran congregations that welcome lesbian and gay believers, the Reconciling in in Christ("RIC") roster now exceeds 300 settings, including congregations, synods and organizations. Holy Trinity is proud to be one of them. [Reconciling in Christ]
